About the app

The idea behind the app

tala-med Cardio is designed to help you lead a healthier lifestyle. The app supports users with easy-to-understand information, tips and exercise videos that anyone can do at home. The aim is to help prevent cardiovascular disease.

Prof. Dr. Andy Maun, Director of the Institute of General Medicine at the University Medical Center Freiburg and tala-med project manager, explains: “Cardiovascular diseases are still one of the most common causes of death in Germany”.

This is where the app comes in and tries to motivate people to exercise more, eat healthier and live a smoke-free life in a simple and understandable way.

The user's data is only stored on their own smartphone.

Funding

The project was funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg as part of the Preventive Medicine Competence Network.

Scientifically proven

The tala-med Cardio app was developed in collaboration with experts from various fields to make scientifically sound health information easily understandable and accessible via multimedia. It supports adults with increased cardiovascular risk in several languages in making lasting improvements to their lifestyle – with modules on exercise, nutrition, and smoking cessation.

Prof. Dr. Andy Maun, head of the Institute of General Medicine at the University Medical Center Freiburg, is responsible for scientific management. He previously led the DECADE project, funded by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), which aimed to promote self-management for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (website, publications).
